IntelliDANCE introduces dancers to Awareness Through Movement ®, a method of learning developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, D.Sc. The lessons are performed lying quietly on a mat, and evoke a deep level of relaxation and heightened kinesthetic awareness.
After a lesson it is common to experience improved alignment and better movement integration throughout the body. In addition, Awareness Through Movement can be a valuable part of injury prevention and of the healing process for dancers who are sidelined by injury.
This workshop includes Awareness Through Movement lessons that relate directly to three primary aspects of a dancer's technical and artistic development. Each lesson is framed in such a way that dancers can begin applying what they learn in dance class right away.
There will be a singular focus on each of the three days of the program:
1st Class. Turnout
Explores the organization of the spine and pelvis that enables the dancer to activate turnout properly, by using the hip rotators.
2nd Class. The Feet
Focuses on bringing about better articulation of the feet, and calling attention to how this improved function affects the mobility and stability of the entire body.
3rd Class. Arms, Neck, and Head
Examines the sensed relationship between arm directionality and freedom in the neck and head, thereby helping to replace a static use of port de bra and epaulement with upper body carriage that is fully integrated.
Andrea, thank you for helping me to relax and move! I definitely needed your class and will continue to work on the valuable things you taught me!
